Q&A Segment with the Author of
"Counterpoint: A Step-By-Step eCourse"

Q: What is counterpoint?

JC:
One way of describing counterpoint is to say that it's the musical art of creating harmony through melody. In it, independent melodies come together to form musical harmonies, while maintaining their independence and melodic integrity. And it's founded on principles that are adaptable to all styles of music in which musical notes and pitches are involved.

Q: What can people expect to gain by taking your counterpoint course?

JC:
By taking the course, they gain knowledge that will improve their music-making skills, enabling them to do a more efficient and effective job. They learn how the threads can be woven to last, irrespective of the kind of music they happen to be making. They gain a deeper, richer understanding of tried-and-true musical concepts and techniques that can make a significant difference in the music they create.

Q: What kind of previous musical experience does a person need in order to take the course?

JC: Just a basic ability to read music, and a basic ability to play a musical instrument. Very simple melodies are used, so that even someone who can only read music a little will be able to follow along and play the examples, and progress in their understanding of the subject as they go.

Q: What caused you to create Counterpoint: A Step-By-Step eCourse?

JC: For one thing, I felt there was a need for it, and that it was something that the average musician needed to know about. The main point was probably to bring the principles of counterpoint into a contemporary light, and to show how musicians of the present day, making present-day styles of music, might be benefited by what counterpoint has to offer. Knowing how valuable these principles could be and would be to musicians who hadn't been aware of them provided a lot of the motivation.

Q: How can someone obtain the Counterpoint: A Step-By-Step eCourse ebooks?

JC: They can go to the Tanager Press website, at www.tanagerpress.com, for details.
